The Homework Thief

January 8, 2008 by Susan

KT: Ohhhh…Mimi! Can I do your homework?

Mimi: OK (sneaking a glance at me)

KT: No…it’s your homework…I’ll only do one problem.

Mimi: Do two!

Me walking in the room: KT, leave your sister alone and let her do her homework in peace.

Mimi: She wants to do my homework!

KT’s look of complete innocence  immediately told that she was up to no good.   I asked her exactly why she wanted to do her sister’s math problems.  She turned sheepish and said that they were easy and looked  like fun.

What kind of kid wants to do math for fun?  Have I ever mentioned that Shaun has been known to read advanced math texts as before bed?

I just don’t get it…

John sometimes complex math problems for fun. I never understood it either. I HATED math. That’s what they made calculators for!

Some people get it, some don’t. My dear husband and son are math heads. I am NOT.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can do math, and those who can’t.

    ;)

I’m sending the kid my checkbook to reconcile. Is reconcile a word?

  6. on January 9, 2008 at 6:13 am The Casual Perfectionist

Maybe there’s a support group your family could join? I mean, with behavior like this, it can only lead to other things. Math is like the gateway drug, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. What’s next? An appreciation for science?? *gasp* :)

On the other hand, maybe KT could check Mimi’s homework!

Call yourself lucky! Atleast she is into something good.
I’m still laughing over the title.

Maybe she’s somehow my daughter. :) I spent years buying those Math workbooks when I was in grade school and algebra later just to do them for fun. I loved math. I know, I was a dork.

Carol~She’s such a strange child. She even spent a summer taking an advanced math class! I tell her that she’s really an alien.

Stephanie~but isn’t it good to know you have a big, smart man to rescue you from any attacking math problems?

    Peggy~me either!

    Hilary~You crack me up!

    Swampy~Um…maybe?

    CP~Oh no…maybe it’s too late. She’s already enthralled by her chem class…

Kitten~Well…I guess it could be worse.. :D

Lisa~I’m so sorry…I had no idea. Are you better now??? teehee

Never have I heard of such a thing. Could I send KT my college homework to do?

  11. on January 9, 2008 at 9:31 am covertkarina

eeek!!!!!! Math and Fun do not even belong in the same dictionary, never mind the same sentence.

That’s all I’m going to say about that.

    EEK!

Swampy–reconcile is, indeed, a word. I believe I’ve heard it used in relation to balancing the checkbook as well.

I always did well in math classes. I stopped at calculus because that’s as far as I was required to go in college in my degree field. I should have taken more classes though. It came pretty easy to me.

Of course now I don’t remember any of it.

thats to funny… when i was a kid there were actually alegrabra problems i got a kick outta doin but thats it.. when it came to geometry i hated it with a passion and trig wasn’t any better

I admire anyone who enjoys math. For the most part, I find it completely tedious and dull. I did like the finite math and statistics classes I took in college. We did probabilities and stats with playing cards which made the math more enjoyable for me as I love to play cards. Isn’t it awesome how we all have different likes and dislikes though? Makes life so much more interesting.

So, you’re saying that KT definitely takes after Shaun? Math problems for fun. Sorry, Doesn’t make sense to me.

  17. on January 10, 2008 at 9:33 am oddmix

Well… Just as long as he doesn’t read them out loud like poetry, I guess that’s OK.

    ;)

Math for FUN? I feel like I’ve entered an alternate universe.
